There he met not only Thomas More, but also John Colet, the celebrated headmaster of St Paul's Cathedral school, the scholars William Grocyn and Thomas Linacre, and Richard Fox, bishop of Winchester, and by them was drawn into a circle of well-connected friends who would inspire and inform his life's work.
